Conversations We Don't Want to Have

This workshop is an invitation to work with breath and bring these creative forces to our voice. Learn to honor these forces and recognize their power to awaken the deeper stories of our lives and continue the discovery of who we really are. Align, transform and create.

Faced with conflict, anxiety, obsessive thinking or angst, we stop breathing and impulsively or compulsively react or avoid responding. To hold back your breath holds back your feelings and holds back your voice. How can you possibly be in the moment?

What we do:

  • * Body Work, breathing exercises, cutting edge vocal and language exercises (including poetry)
  • *   Improvs, personal monologues, visualization

What you go home with:

  • * The power of the breath to access the imagination and the subconscious.
  • * Heightened awareness of our authentic voice through writing, dancing, speaking and   singing
  • * Heightened awareness of our intuitive connection to language
  • * Ownership of our voice and ownership of our power

Richard Burton's Secrets

June 19th, 2010

Location: TBA; $190

This one-day workshop will reveal another well-kept "secret": what Richard Burton knew about language.

Richard Burton's voice is legendary. However, what makes it legengary is not simply the power and timber of his voice but rather his ability to navigate words and clarify language-even in his most laconic roles.

Are they just tricks? Not so. Any more than the secrets of poetry are tricks. Emotion moves us and words illuminate. In the exploration of RB work words pop, ideas are crystallized and the emotional life supports the language. The sub-text meets the text. If the actor has a voice in place and clear diction, these RB principals of language will govern, frame and accentuate acting work.

What we do:

  • * Body work
  • * Clarify dialogue with Richard Burton's secrets and the secrts of poetry. Line by line, intent by intent and overall focus.

What you go home with:

  • * Powerful and innovative exercises to wake up the body.
  • * Bring your actors craft, talent and intution to a new understanding of language
  • * Three principles, Richard Burton's secrets, that put the power of dialogue in the palm of your hand.

"Lynn works on character, on the character of story and on our character.  She has an ability to that allows us to declare what makes us unique and powerful. Once at that level, she'll move us to firmly hold that essence in the world. And practically speaking, Lynn has helped me discover my brand and market it."
